from the Richmond Beach Community News,
October 1996
...Here I sit in the dappled shade of huge alders and maples.
Just beyond my vision is a little rapids where the water’s
steady flow is interrupted by a washboard of basalt outcrop.
Day and night, day and night, the water moves over these speed
bumps, and never sounds the same! Certain breezes amplify the
noise to threatening proportions, others render it just another
rustling alder. These breezes bring me the pungent, herbal
scent of wild roses, and the sweet moldy smells of damp earth.
No gardener could improve on this lovely combination of colors,
textures, sounds and smells...
